David S. Fulmer

David Stanley Fulmer, 81, recently of Belpre, OH and latest of West Chester, OH, passed away October 19, 2022, at his residence.

Dave was born May 2, 1941, in Parkersburg, WV, and was the son of the late Leo J (Mike) and Garnet May (Cochran) Fulmer.  He was a 1959 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving as a weather specialist in Southeast Asia and Japan from 1959-1963 (Vietnam War).  After discharge from his service Dave returned to the greater Parkersburg area where he lived most of his life, worked and raised a family with his beloved wife.  Dave started work as an operator at Union Carbide Chemical’s polystyrene manufacturing plant in Marietta and worked at that facility (under many changed names) until his retirement in 1992 from Chevron Chemical Co., finishing as a highly respected operations supervisor.  He later returned to Chevron, who counted on his manufacturing expertise to lead a plant expansion project in Zhangjiagang, just outside of Shanghai, China.  Over the several years there, he developed many new friendships with the local people and a deep appreciation of their culture.

Dave spent most of his free time with his family and friends.  He loved playing golf, fishing, listening to music, the Cincinnati Reds and the West Virginia Mountaineers.  Echoes will linger of him coaching from the couch while watching his favorite teams.  His family has great memories of vacations and trips to Myrtle Beach, Disney and camping in the Smokey Mountains.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife to Nags Head where he loved fishing on the pier and a whale watching trip to Hawaii to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary.

Dave is survived by his wife of 57 years Sheila (Sprague) also of West Chester; son Mike (Patti) of Stow, OH; daughter Amanda (Jeff) Hoelscher of Mason, OH; grandchildren Nathan of Akron, Zachary of Akron, Cathryn of Stow, Abbey, Jamie and Jack of Mason, brother Curtis Fulmer of Williamstown and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that he remained close with.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his younger brother Thomas earlier this year.

A memorial service will take place on Sunday October 30, 2022 at 2pm with visitation from 12-2pm, at the Leavitt Funeral Home Belpre.  Full military honors will be provided by the VFW of Marietta and the American Post 64 of Marietta. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.LeavittFuneralHome.com or https://www.shortenandryan.com.  A memorial service in West Chester, OH will be announced at a later date.  In honor of Dave’s charitable nature, the family requests that donations in his memory be directed to any Veteran’s group, the American Heart Association or St Jude’s.
