Self-proclaimed aging fangirl, and 80s AquaNet Queen, Laura Nadler would like it known that her 49 years upon this earth were spent living life to the fullest with her family and raising hell with her lifelong friends. Mother to twins, Morgan and Caitlin Nadler, and daughter to Thomas (Barb) Nadler, dear sister of Yvonne (Jack) Marcum, Shelly (Adam) Frederick, aunt of Alex Marcum, Macy Frederick, Payton Frederick, Ali Frederick, Gavin Frederick and predeceased by mother Sharon McCall, Laura lived for making her daughters laugh. Though her daughters (and friends) would say it was more like a cackle, her booming laugh was quite contagious and soon, there would be a raucous sound as those around her joined in.
A lover of Jimmy Buffet, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Grey’s Anatomy, Twin Peaks, and the Harry Potter books, Laura could be found sharing pictures of her favorite artists on Instagram, connecting with activists on Twitter, listening to her very eclectic playlists on her phone, and spamming her friend’s Facebook timelines with Grey’s Anatomy videos. She loved “feel-good” movies like Mamma Mia and found “disaster” movies, soothing enough to help her sleep.
A strong advocate for civil rights in all facets including fighting for LGBTQIA and women’s rights, she made her impact through fandom as she co-founded one of the largest Harry Potter fanfiction websites, The Quidditch Pitch, where thousands of writers shared their fanfiction and fan-art in a community of peers. At its height, the archive hosted over 7,500 writers and held works totaling over 1 million words.
Laura was not one to sit still for long and it was widely known among her friends that she expected to live long enough to cause trouble in the nursing home beside her lifelong friends, Diana Woodward and Saritza Hernandez as the next generation of Golden Girls. Though her time on this earth was cut short, her friends vow to continue to raise hell and cause trouble in her name.
In lieu of a quiet memorial, her friends and family will memorialize Laura with raucous laughter, Jimmy Buffet songs, and memories shared of some of her most spectacular moments. They expect the party to continue for the rest of their lives as they live it like Laura wanted: to the fullest, with a cackle, a disaster movie playing in the background, a margarita in hand.
