**Obituary for Ronald Lee Schoonover**
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Lee Schoonover on December 11, 2024, in his beloved hometown of Mason. Ohio. Ronald was fiercely proud of his service in the United States Army, where he honed his skills as an expert marksman and dedicated himself to training countless soldiers, ensuring they returned home safely to their loved ones.
Ronald was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Bonnie, and a loving father to their two sons, Christopher Lee Collins Schoonover and Donald C. Schoonover. He took immense joy in being a grandfather, showering his love upon Dawn Marie and Joseph Cameron.. Additionally, he held a special bond with his brother, Ed Schoonover, one that resonated with warmth and care.
Throughout his life, Ronald cultivated a passion for travel, which he expressed through his remarkable collection of stamps that documented the many places he visited. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his insatiable curiosity for history. He was never shy about sharing his knowledge, inviting others to embark on journeys through the pages of the books he loved. Each story he shared ignited the same passion for learning in those around him, making literature a treasured gift in their lives.
Ronald cherished the simple joys that life offered. He had a knack for turning everyday items—like flashlights and pocketknives—into meaningful souvenirs of his military experiences, always eager to share those tales with anyone who would listen. Another passion of his was train travel; he found beauty in watching the landscapes unfold as the train carried him across the picturesque countryside, particularly along the scenic routes from Baltimore to Cincinnati. Each journey was a blend of adventure, beauty, and deep appreciation for the world around him.
Services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Hospice of Cincinnati
