Wayne Buckley, Sr., 74, passed away peacefully in his home in Mason, Ohio on Sunday, February 20, 2022. Wayne was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
Wayne was born on December 29, 1947, in Coral Gables, Florida. He grew up in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1967. Wayne was an Eagle Scout, the highest rank in the Boy Scouts. During his bachelor days, he found all kinds of adventure--he saved trees and fought forest fires in Rocky Mountain National Park, rode motorcycles, and raced corvettes. Wayne began his life-long career in the airline industry in 1969 as a catering agent for Piedmont Airlines.
Wayne married his soulmate, Lydia Martin, of Mason, Ohio, in 1979. They had three children together: Dawn (1980), Alison (1982), and Wayne Jr. (1983), who they raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Wayne loved gadgets, hats, music, aircraft, and his family. He was an avid reader with an outsized sense of humor and the biggest sweet tooth. He was truly a friend to all, human or animal (but especially animal). Wayne always knew your current weather and your 10-day forecast. He liked being at the beach during hurricanes, and you may even receive a text message from him notifying you of a lightning strike in your area.
In his own words from his Facebook bio: "I am old! I am lovable sometimes. I like to drive very fast."
Wayne is survived by his wife, Lydia; his three children: Dawn Buckley (Virginia Beach, VA), Alison Buckley-Serfass (Chapel Hill, NC), and Wayne Buckley Jr. (Houston, TX); his seven grandchildren: Amelia, Aria, Alma, Esme, Johannes, Eda, and Imke; and his brother John Buckley, Jr. Wayne was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Celine; his mother, Meriam Buckley; his father, John Reed Buckley; and his brother, Steve Buckley.
The family of Wayne will be receiving friends for a visitation at Shorten and Ryan Funeral Home (400 Reading Road, Mason, OH 45040) on Monday, February 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
